Make yourself at home in our locally hand-crafted bespoke pods. Snuggle down under the covers of the kingsize bed and enjoy a fantastic night’s sleep in the tranquillity of the countryside. Wake up with the sun and look out to your stunning view.
Spend an evening bubbling away your stresses, aches and pains in your private hot tub whilst watching the sun set over Dunnet Head, the most northerly point of the Scottish Mainland.
Wine and dine either in or out! Cook some fresh local produce in the well equipped kitchen and eat at your dining table, or enjoy the fresh air on your private outdoor terrace. Or why not have a sausage sizzle outside on the Caithness Stone BBQ!
Enjoy the wide open space of the countryside, there’s plenty to go around. You will love the freedom to roam, kick a football or say hello to the neighbours across the fence – the sheep and cows! For little ones, there is a play area to explore with swings, slide and play house.
Sibmister Farm is a hidden gem in the farmland of Caithness in the North Highlands and has long since provided our animals with unrivalled views over the bay. It has been home to our family, the Sutherland’s, since 1969; Kenneth and Elspeth have raised their two boys here who have had an idyllic up-bringing breeding pigs, hatching chicks and showing sheep. They have grown up to make farming their life and have loved every second of it. For Stephen and Kenneth Jr, farming their herd of cows and flock of sheep keeps them more than busy, but we are so lucky that our office is the hillside and we have the freedom of being our own bosses.
As life goes on, Kenneth has married Fiona (me!) and they have a young family in Amy and Jack – and we introduce the next generation of tractor and animal mad Sutherlands to Sibmister! Stephen and his fiance Alix will marry this year and are settled a just mile from Sibmister. We hope to give our children the same fantastic farming up-bringing as the generation before them, and we have decided to invite visitors to share a slice of our beautiful home.
To begin with, we planned to provide a basic indoor camping experience to our guests, but this spectacular site commanded a special type of accommodation. We were successful in receiving a grant from LEADER Scotland to partially fund the build and help us with our journey. Together with local tradesmen, we have designed and built our own bespoke pods. This has allowed us to offer our guests a far more luxurious and spacious area with all the amenities of a self-catering apartment. And the hot tub completes the package to make Braeside Retreats a holiday to remember.
We believe this is the ideal spot to recharge your batteries, truly relax and unwind. Take advantage of the long, light Caithness summer nights or stargaze in the dark. Immerse yourself in the sheer tranquillity of the hillside, breathe in the fresh air and melt into that view.
